Gold is an unreleased, crafted material. It was originally roadmapped for the closed beta release in December 2021,[1] however it was not completed in time for the release and has been re-slated for the early access launch.[2]
Inspection of the game's assembly files reveals recipe prototypes which are currently locked behind the inaccessible Gold Smelting research.[3] Given the location of the Gold Smelting research on the technology tree and the recipes visible, it is indicated that Gold will be an ingredient required for the multi-stage production of Microchips — specifically Microchips Stage 1c,[4] Microchips Stage 2c,[4] Microchips Stage 3c,[4] Microchips Stage 3c,[4] and the final Microchips stage itself[5] — as well as in the production of Thermal Plates.
In September 2021, the developers were considering using Gold as a currency for trading though there has been no further discussion of this topic to date.[6]
