Gold is an unreleased, crafted material. It was originally roadmapped for the closed beta release in December 2021, however it was not completed in time for the release and has been re-slated for the early access launch.

Inspection of the game's assembly files reveals recipe prototypes which are currently locked behind the inaccessible Gold Smelting research. Given the location of the Gold Smelting research on the technology tree and the recipes visible, it is indicated that Gold will be an ingredient required for the multi-stage production of Microchips — specifically Microchips Stage 1c, Microchips Stage 2c, Microchips Stage 3c, Microchips Stage 3c, and the final Microchips stage itself — as well as in the production of Thermal Plates.

In September 2021, the developers were considering using Gold as a currency for trading though there has been no further discussion of this topic to date.
