Steel is a crafted material whose sole source is by the casting of Molten Steel in a Cooled Caster or, later, in a Cooled Caster II. It is a required ingredient in the production of Construction Parts II, Maintenance II, and Uranium Rods.

Steel is also commonly used as a replacement ingredient for Iron in the creation Maintenance I where greatly improves the material efficiency of its constituent Iron Ore. While alternate recipes exist for Household Goods and Construction Parts which substitute Steel for Wood at a ratio of 1:3 and 1:4 respectively, they are seldom used as Wood can be renewably collected via the Sawmill while Iron Ore is non-renewable.
