The Tree Planter is used to plant trees (obviously). To do so you need to:

• Grow Tree Saplings on some type of Farm, and preferably send them to a Unit Storage nearby.
• Build a Forestry Control Tower, and assign some area to be planted with designations. Note that it won't work if it isn't dirt, like placing Farms.
• Have a Tree Planter assigned to the Forestry Control Tower, and probably a Tree Harvester too.
• The settings on the tower will control when the trees are cut down, there's a sapling needed/wood gained tradeoff.
• The effectiveness of the Tree Planter depends on the shape of the forestry designation, and the distance to saplings and the forestry tower. Under good conditions (compact shape, saplings and tower close, no refueling breaks), the planting speed is ~2.5 trees/60.
