Core Fuel
is the primary fuel used by the Fast Breeder Reactor and is required for it to operate. An equal amount of is produced as the result, which can be reprocessed in a .

in a running reactor loop typically does not need to be externally provided. For initiating a loop however a minimum of 40 should be provided so the reactor can begin to work, for which both and can be used.

Reprocessing of returns 75% of the amount as alongside a by-product.

Blanket Fuel
is an optional input fuel for the reactor. While it does not contribute to power generation, it can be enriched into , which can in turn be used to produce to sustain the reaction or to produce other nuclear products.

In order to get up and running, the Fast Breeder Reactor requires about 40 Core Fuel which must be produced the hard/inefficient way by twice enriching uranium: Yellow Cake into into . However, once it gets going, reprocessing the Spent Core Fuel and enriching Blanket Fuel can be used instead, which greatly reduce the uranium consumption.
is typically produced from , though , and as by-products of earlier nuclear power production chains can also be used to produce it.

For an effective steady state, arrange input priorities for Core Fuel as follows:
The enrichment of is optional. The reactor's production and consumption are not affected if is not provided or is not removed.
# Recovered from Spent Core Fuel in a Nuclear Reprocessing Plant (80% recovery rate)
# Made from Blanket Fuel (Enriched) in an Enrichment Plant (yields slightly more than enough to make up the remaining 20%)
# Made from Enriched Uranium (20%) in a Chemical Plant II (only at start)

Also, arrange input priorities for Blanket Fuel as follows:
Reprocessing of returns 75% of the amount as and the rest as a secondary product of choice.

3: Enriches trice as much as spent and cuts  production by 75%. Enrichment of is optional and does not affect reactor performance. It runs at the same speed as the main recipe (the one that produces from ) but enriches 1.2 units of per unit of Core Fuel consumed. As an illustration, at 4X reactor speed, the enrichment along with the main recipe behaves like the following combined recipe:

The Fast Breeder Reactor is a machine that generates large amounts of Steam (Super) from Water and Core Fuel for use in generators. The reactor can also enrich Blanket Fuel to Blanket Fuel (Enriched), which is used in the production of Core Fuel and other nuclear products.

Because of this, it is only necessary to produce enough initial Core Fuel from a Chemical plant II to begin the loop, as long as you are recycling the spent core fuel and enriched blanket fuel. Once this cycle is operating successfully, you will only need to make sure that you continue adding a small amount of Blanket Fuel, which can be easily made from a relatively small amount of Yellowcake with no Depleted Uranium byproduct.

Power is generated by passing the output Steam (Super) through Super-pressure Turbines, High-pressure Turbines, and Low-pressure Turbines with their output shaft connected to Power Generators, typically Tier 2 variants of each. A majority of the Water can subsequently be recovered for reuse using a Cooling Tower (Large). Generated Steam (Super) can be also used to desalinate Seawater and produce Hydrogen.

Core and Blanket Fuel

Core Fuel

Core Fuel is the primary fuel used by the Fast Breeder Reactor and is required for it to operate. An equal amount of File:CoreFuelSpent.png Core Fuel (Spent) is produced as the result, which can be reprocessed in a Nuclear Reprocessing Plant.

Core Fuel in a running reactor loop typically does not need to be externally provided. For initiating a loop however a minimum of 40 should be provided so the reactor can begin to work, for which both Plutonium and File:EnrichedUranium20Perc.png Enriched Uranium (20%) can be used.

Reprocessing of File:CoreFuelSpent.png Spent Core Fuel returns 75% of the amount as Core Fuel alongside a Fission Product by-product.

Blanket Fuel

Blanket Fuel is an optional input fuel for the reactor. While it does not contribute to power generation, it can be enriched into Blanket Fuel (Enriched), which can in turn be used to produce Core Fuel to sustain the reaction or to produce other nuclear products.

Blanket Fuel is typically produced from Yellowcake, though Depleted Uranium, Spent Fuel and Spent MOX as by-products of earlier nuclear power production chains can also be used to produce it.

The enrichment of Blanket Fuel is optional. The reactor's Steam production and Core Fuel consumption are not affected if Blanket Fuel is not provided or Blanket Fuel (Enriched) is not removed.

Reprocessing of Blanket Fuel (Enriched) returns 75% of the amount as Blanket Fuel and the rest as a secondary product of choice.

Enrichment options

The Fast Breeder Reactor has three modes of enrichment:

0: Enriches no Blanket Fuel and halves Core Fuel consumption. Not recommended unless you have a lot of Plutonium to spend.

1: Enriches as much Blanket Fuel as Core Fuel consumed. This mode creates a zero-sum loop where only Blanket Fuel needs to be provided and Fission Product to be removed, and is ideal for power generation.

3: Enriches trice as much Blanket Fuel as Core Fuel spent and cuts Steam production by 75%. Used to produce Plutonium and File:EnrichedUranium20Perc.png Enriched Uranium (20%) for space-related parts.

Below are the recipes for all three operating modes at 1x and 4x reactor speed.
