This change reduces the overall Coal requirement drastically for smelting Iron or Copper by 87.5% (12 /60s vs 1.5 /60s) and for smelting Glass by 90% (15 /60s vs 1.5 /60s). Coal consumption may be decreased even further by producing Graphite from {{infoicon|Carbon Dioxide}}. Both recipes also produce 50% less {{infoicon|Exhaust}} per unit produced.

While {{variants|Nuclear Reactor}} or {{variants|Solar Panel}}, are strongly recommended for powering the Arc Furnace II, [[Boiler (Coal)]] is still a viable option. Even with coal power, overall Coal usage still drops by 16.7-25.0% relative to a Blast Furnace II, depending on how efficiently the {{infoicon|Steam Lo}} byproduct is used. Similarly, Exhaust drops by 2.0-4.5 per furnace.

Arc Furnace II
T2

This furnace has a cooling system to safely reach higher operating temperatures. This provides increased throughput and an opportunity to reuse some of the excess heat. Power requirements are increased as well.

An Arc Furnace II is a direct upgrade from the Arc Furnace machine. It carries a 50% higher Worker and a 83% higher Electricity requirement in addition to Water, some of which can be recovered by passing the byproduct Steam (Low) through Cooling Towers. In exchange, it doubles throughput of Silicon smelting without increasing the need for Coal or Graphite.

Additionally, it incorporates smelting recipes for Iron Ore Crushed, Copper Ore Crushed, and Glass Mix similar to those available in the Blast Furnace II which make it possible to replace all Blast Furnace II machines on the island. These recipes switch 15 Coal for 6 Water and 3 Graphite (plus 4 Tflop and 5.5 MW power consumption), whilst generating 6 Steam Lo and reducing Exhaust output by 24/min. Assuming that all Graphite is made from Coal and Chlorine, this amounts to a 90% reduction in Coal usage.

While Nuclear Reactor [IIFBR] or Solar Panel [Mono], are strongly recommended for powering the Arc Furnace II, Boiler is still a viable option. Even with coal power, overall Coal usage still drops by 16.7-25.0% relative to a Blast Furnace II, depending on how efficiently the Steam (Low) byproduct is used. Similarly, Exhaust drops by 2.0-4.5 per furnace.
