Salt is a semi-processed material created by processing Seawater or Brine in an Evaporation Pond. It is used in the creation of Glass Mix which is required for the mid-game technologies such as the Truck, Tree Harvester, and Housing III. Salt is additionally used in late-game food recipes and late-game nuclear fuel processing.
Although Salt can be used in the production of Brine, this is rarely useful. If Brine is needed, it is easier and cheaper to simply create it directly from Seawater and not use Salt at all.
Converting between Seawater, Brine, and Salt is lossless in terms of "salt content". That is, Salt => Brine => Salt gives the same amount of Salt out, and Seawater => Brine produces the same amount as Seawater => Salt => Brine. Notably these processes are not water-conserving and will expend a great deal of fresh Water.
